Joachim Olsen

Joachim Brøchner Olsen ( born May 31, 1977 in Aalborg ) is a Danish shot-putter.

Early in his career he was active as a discus thrower. When he studied history at the University of Idaho, he put his shot put style of the Angleittechnik to the rotary push-through technique for improved dramatically and finally focused on this discipline.

He was U23 European Vice- Champion in 1999, and at the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton in 2001 he was tenth. In 2002 he won silver at the European Indoor Championships and the European Championships in Munich, where he was beaten by Yuri Bilonoh. At the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint- Denis, he failed to qualify.

In 2004 he won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest and at the Olympic Games in Athens, where he lay with 21.07 meters behind Yuri Bilonoh and Adam Nelson.

He became European Indoor champion and seventh at the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005. In 2006, he landed at the World Indoor Championships in Moscow again in the bronze medal. A bronze medal there for him at the European Championships in Gothenburg, where he placed with 21.09 meters behind Ralf Bartels and Andrei Mikhnevich.

Also got bronze for him at the European Indoor Championships in 2007, at the World Championships in Osaka, however, he resigned from in qualifying.

Olsen is 1,84 m tall and weighs in competitions around 130 kg.
