Joachim Wuermeling

Joachim Wuermeling ( born July 19, 1960 in Münster) is a German Board of the Association of Sparda- Banken eV, State Secretary and former European politician of the CSU.

Wuermeling was 1999-2005 MEP from the CSU in Bavaria in the European People's Party ( EPP) and December 2005-January 2008 Permanent State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. From 2010 to the end of 2011 was Wuermeling member of the EU subsidiary organ of the European Economic and Social Committee. Volunteering, he was co-founder of the group European Professional and is currently treasurer of the bipartisan European Union Germany.

Curriculum vitae

After graduating from the Tilemannschule in Limburg (1979 ) Wuermeling studied law. In 1985, he put in Bayreuth from his First State Exam. Finally, he completed his doctorate at Peter Haeberle in Bayreuth ( 1987). This is followed by the clerkship joined with the Second State Examination in Law (1989). Wuermeling acquired in 1990 at the European University Institute in Florence a Master of Comparative, European and International Law.

After the academic training Wuermeling initially worked from 1989-1993 as Director of European Affairs in the Bavarian Representation in Bonn. He was then (1993-1995) Worked in the office of the Commissioner Schmidhuber in the European Commission in Brussels and (1993-1999) Head of Unit at the European Department in the Bavarian State Chancellery in Munich.

Between 1999 and 2005 Wuermeling was a member of the European Parliament. He was, inter alia, Member of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and also deputy coordinator of the EPP in the Committee on Constitutional Affairs ( 2002-2004).

Wuermeling was a deputy member of the EP delegation to the European Convention which drew up the draft European Constitution ( 2002-2003).

From December 2005 to January 2008 was Wuermeling tenured Europe Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and in this function, coordinator of the European policy.

From 2008 to 2011 Wuermeling responsible as a member of the Executive Board of the General Association of German Insurers the divisions Europe and international affairs.

On 1 January 2011 Wuermeling Chairman of the Board of the Association of Sparda-Banken eV was Sparda Group consists of twelve independent cooperative banks in Germany and provides banking services for private clients. It currently has about 4 million members and customers. The balance sheet total amounted to about 60 billion euros in 2011. The Association of Sparda banks, the group represented to the outside and forms the framework for the various joint activities of banks.

Volunteering acts Wuermeling with as treasurer in the Bureau of bipartisan European Union Germany. From 2009 to 2011, he was also with the federal official Silke Kaul spokesperson of the European Union Capital Group European Professional. The group formed a network of European experts in Berlin and wants to promote the Europeanisation of German policy. 2010 to 2012 he was a member of the European Economic and Social Committee, a subsidiary organ of the European Union.

2011 Wuermeling was appointed Honorary Professor at the University of Potsdam. Since 1998 Wuermeling worked as a lecturer there and at the University of Bayreuth.

Joachim Wuermeling is married and has five daughters. He is one of the sons of George Wuermeling, former District Administrator of the Limburg- Weilburg, and grandson of the first Federal Family Minister Franz -Josef Wuermeling (Cabinet Adenauer II, III, IV).
