Joan Hanham, Baroness Hanham

Joan Brownlow Hanham, Baroness Hanham CBE ( born September 23, 1939) is a member of the House of Lords for the Conservative Party. Since 2010 she has been Parliamentary Under-Secretary of the Department for Communities and Local Government. She was 1989 President of the Council of Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council. Her successor in that office was from April 2000 Merrick Cockell.

She was raised as Baroness Hanham for Life Peer in 1999. In the same year she also competed as a candidate for election as Mayor of London, but lost to Steve Norris, who then lost in the mayoral election against Ken Livingstone.

Hanham is chairman of the St. Mary's Hospital NHS Trust and Westminster Primary Care Trust. She was appointed in 1984 to Freeman of the City of London and the CBE has been awarded this in 1997.
