Joan Harrison (swimmer)

Joan Harrison ( born November 29, 1935 in East London (Eastern Cape ) ) is a former South African swimmer.

At the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, she was at the age of 16 years 100m backstroke in 1:14,3 minutes Olympic champion. In the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1954 in Vancouver, she won two gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal before she stepped back at 17 years of swimming. In 1982, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
