Jóanes Nielsen

Joanes Sekjær Nielsen ( born April 5, 1953 in Tórshavn ) is a Faroese writer and Communist.

Joanes was born in 1953 as the son of Svend Nielsen Sekjær and Marjun Nielsen. He attended the Catholic school in Tórshavn Skt Frants and subsequently worked as a sailor. He is married and has two daughters Rannvá Mortensen. Most of the time he lived in Tórshavn, but also in Tvøroyri, Iceland, Denmark and Sweden.

Nielsen's literary model is William Heinesen. His literature is critical of society and engaged, simultaneously entertaining and funny.

In 1984 he received the Literature Prize of the Faroe Islands for Pinnabrenni til sosialismuna and in 2012 for Brahmadellarnir (novel). In 2002 he was awarded the Nordic Drama Award for Eitur Nakad country week-end? . No other Faroese has so often been nominated for the Literature Prize of the Nordic Council, which he never received: 1988, 1994, 1999 and 2004.
