Joanna Hayes

Joanna Hayes ( born December 23, 1976 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania) is an American hurdler and Olympic champion.

In their present place of residence Los Angeles, she attended high school and college. Her career began in 1994 with a 7th place in the 100 - meter hurdles at the national junior championships. In 1995, she won gold at the Junior Championships in the 100m hurdles discipline and a 5th place in the 400 - meter hurdles and won gold again in the Pan American Junior Championships. From 1997 to 2001 she won several 100 - and 400 -meter hurdle races, but could not show consistently high quality performance because she took too many 4th, 5th and 6th places.

This only changed when she started in 2002 to train at the sports center of Jackie Joyner - Kersee. In 2003, she achieved a 2nd place finish at the U.S. Championships and won gold at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo. In 2004 she was second in the National Indoor Championships 60m hurdles and won the gold medal in the 100 m hurdles at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens Olena Krassowska (UKR ) and Melissa Morrison (USA). At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 she stumbled in the final of the 100 meters hurdles at the last hurdle and was eighth.
