João Magueijo
João Magueijo ( * 1967 in Évora ) is a Portuguese theoretical physicist who is a representative of a cosmological theory with a variable speed of light ( see superluminal ) known.
Magueijo studied physics at the University of Lisbon and was at Cambridge University (St. John 's College ) PhD. After that, he was at Princeton University and Cambridge University and is a professor at Imperial College London.
In 1998, he developed a cosmological theory with a variable speed of light (Variable Speed of Light Theory, VSL) with Andreas Albrecht. Increased in the early universe the speed of light could be the horizon problem and other cosmological problems can be solved without inflation. A similar theory was proposed by John Moffat in 1993, but at first largely ignored ( there was also a priority dispute with Moffat, but the both amicable attached any ). Magueijo 2003 published a popular book about his theory.
He also published a biography of Ettore Majorana.
