Joaquim Justino Carreira

Joaquim Justino Carreira ( born January 29, 1950 in Santa Catarina da Serra, Portugal, † September 1, 2013 in São Paulo, Brazil) was bishop of Guarulhos in Brazil.

Life

Joaquim Justino Carreira was after the completion of studies at Colégio São Bento in Araraquara, São Paulo first office assistant (1963-1967) and 1967-1973 Secretary at the Diocesan Curia in Jundiaí. He studied philosophy at the Faculdades Anchieta in São Paulo and 1973-1976 theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. At the Nossa Sra Faculdade Assunção in São Paulo, he earned a degree in Pastoral Theology. At the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, he completed a master's degree in marriage and family.

He received on 11 June 1976, the diaconate in the Diocese of Jundiaí. The Bishop of Jundiaí, Gabriel Paulino Bueno Couto O. Carm, consecrated him on March 19, 1977 in Jundiaí a priest. He was from 1976 to 2005 worked in pastoral ministry, most recently pastor of the Catedral Nossa Senhora do Desterro in Jundiaí. Pope John Paul II appointed him on August 6, 1990 to Monsignor.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop on 24 March 2005 in São Paulo and Titular Bishop of Cabarsussi. The Archbishop of São Paulo, Cláudio Cardinal Hummes OFM, gave him on 21 May of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Osvaldo Giuntini, Bishop of Marília, and Gil Antônio Moreira, Bishop of Jundiaí. As a motto he chose PAX VOBIS. In 2011 he became a member of the Commission for the Pastoral Care of cnbb. He was vicar of the pastoral regions VI, VII and VIII and Vicar General of the Diocese of Jundiaí.

Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 23 November 2011 for the Bishop of Guarulhos.

2012 was found in Carreira cancer, for which he underwent from Februar expiring August 2013 chemotherapy. On August 24, 2013 he was transferred due to complications to the intensive care unit of the Hospital AC Camargo, where he succumbed to cancer on September 1.
