Joaquina Vedruna de Mas

Joaquina of Vedruna also Joaquima of Vedruna (* April 16, 1783 in Barcelona, † August 28 1854 in Vich ) was a Spanish nun and foundress. She is worshiped in the Roman Catholic Church as a saint.

Joaquina, who came from a noble family, married in 1799, at the age of 16 years, the lawyer and landowner Teodoro de Mas. From their marriage nine children were born during their marriage, three of whom have died as infants. Four of her daughters were nuns. After her husband's death in 1816 Joaquina founded with the help of the Bishop of Vich 1826, the Congregation of the Carmelites of the love that cares for needy girls, single and homeless. Sr. Joaquina died in 1854 of cholera, which she sustained in the care of the sick. Your congregation received papal approbation in 1880. On the death of Sr. Joaquinas the sisters had already built 27 monasteries.
