Jobie Dajka

2002: World Champion - Keirin

Jobie Dajka ( born December 11, 1981 in Bourke, New South Wales, † April 7, 2009 in Adelaide ) was an Australian cyclist.

Jobie Dajka, who drove mainly on the track, was honored by the Australian Institute of Sport as the best young athletes in 1999. He missed qualifying for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Two years later he was at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Ballerup near Copenhagen world champion in keirin.

Because of a false statement by him in a doping survey Dajka was thrown just before the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens from the team and suspended by his federation for six months. A year later, he beat himself with the then national coach Martin Barras, after which he was banned for another three years.

Dajka then fell into a depression and got alcohol problems. In December 2006, he received his license back on the condition to seek medical treatment as well as abzuleisten 80 hours of community service.

On 7 April 2009 Jobie Dajka was found dead in his home in Adelaide. The cause of death is a heart attack was suspected.
