Jobourg is a commune in the department of Manche in Basse-Normandie region.

Geography

Jobourg is located on the peninsula of Cotentin and even on a smaller peninsula called La Hague, which juts out into the English Channel. Alderney is about 10 km away. The community is adjacent to

  • Auderville in the northwest,
  • Saint- Germain -des- Vaux in the Northeast,
  • Omonville- la -Petite in the east and
  • Herqueville in the southeast.

From the Cape Nez de Jobourg one has a wonderful view of all the Channel Islands (Jersey, Guernsey and Sark ).

Geology

Jobourg is in the Armorican Massif. And there are the oldest rocks of France for the digestion.

Toponymy

Jobourg derives from the Scandinavian: jorth ( cf. German earth), borg (mounting, see German castle ). François de Beaurepaire is of the opinion that this would be due from the Ängelsächsischen eordhburg with a similar meaning.

Economy

On one part of Jobourg is the controversial reprocessing plant at La Hague.

The French government is studying the construction of tidal power plants in the Raz Blanchard (just before we Barfleur ), in one of the strongest tidal currents in Europe between the Cape of La Hague and Alderney ..

The CROSS -ma Jobourg, which is operated by the French Navy, monitors the traffic separation zone between the Mont -Saint -Michel and Cape of Antifer near Le Havre.

Because of the picturesque landscape, tourism has developed favorably in recent years.
