Jobst I, Count of Hoya

Jobst I von Hoya (* 1460, † January 6, 1507 ) was from 1466 to 1507 the reigning Count of Hoya (upper county).

Family

Jobst was the son of Count Johann V. von Hoya and Elizabeth of Diepholz. Since his father Johann married very late, Jobst was not old enough to take over the government in its death. Therefore took Jobst Uncle Albert, Bishop of Minden, first the guardianship. His brothers Erich and Johann did not reach adulthood. 1488 married Jobst Ermengard to the lip. The marriage produced six offspring were born:

  • Jobst II (* 1493, † 1545 ), successor Jobst I.
  • Johann VII († 1535), a Swedish army commander
  • Erich IV († 1547), was awarded the part of county Stolzenau
  • Anna, Stiftsdame in Vreden
  • Elisabeth, abbess in Essen
  • Marie, wife of Jodok Bronkhorst and Bokeloo

Life and work

In Jobst reign of the extinction of the line of Hoyaer Niedergrafschaft fell, the Lehnsstreitigkeiten with the dukes of Brunswick- Lüneburg meant. In the context of this dispute Jobst 1504 had to take the actual rich immediate county by the Dukes fief. This was associated with payment of a large sum of money. The debt burden of certain life of the Counts of Hoya in the 16th century and was the beginning of the financial decline of the family.
