Jochen Borchert

Johann Joachim Borchert ( born April 25, 1940 in Nahrstedt ) is a German politician ( CDU). He was from 1993 to 1998 Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forestry.

Life and career

Jochen Borchert was born in Nahrstedt at Stendal, Altmark, the son of a farmer. In 1953 his family fled to the West. Post-high school Borchert graduated from 1957 to 1959 and then attended an agricultural apprenticeship from 1960 to 1961, the Engineering School for farming in Soest and earned a degree as an agricultural engineer here. In 1970 he took over the family lease operating in Wattenscheid and also began studying economics at the Ruhr- University Bochum, which he finished in 1974 as a graduate economist.

Borchert was president of the German Hunting Association ( DJV ) and Chairman of the Board for thoroughbred breeding and racing eV Cologne. Currently, he is still president of the NRW Foundation and Chairman of the Hunter Foundation human nature. He is one of the supervisory boards of Dolff -Beteiligungs AG, Dusseldorf (Chairman), the Agricultural Insurance Association Münster ( Chairman), the LVM Health Insurance AG, Münster ( Chairman), the LVM life insurance AG ( Chairman), the LVM pension fund AG and LVM Rechtsschutzversicherungs to AG. Jochen Borchert is married and has two children. His wife Ingrid Borchert is a member of the Council of the City of Bochum. His daughter is the journalist Katharina Borchert.

Political career

Since 1965, Borchert is a member of the CDU. From 1977 to 2000 he was Chairman of the CDU district association Bochum and since 2000 has been its honorary chairman. From 1976 to 1981 Borchert was a member of the Council of the City of Bochum. From 1980 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag. Jochen Borchert is always drawn on a state list North Rhine-Westphalia to the German Bundestag. From 1989 to 1993 he was here budgetary policy spokesman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group.

On 21 January 1993 Borchert was appointed as Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Forestry in led by Chancellor Helmut Kohl Federal Government, of which he was for two terms (Cabinet Kohl IV / Cabinet Kohl V).
