Jochen Sandig

Jochen Sand ( born January 5, 1968 in Esslingen ) is a German cultural entrepreneur and founder of four cultural institutions in Berlin.

Life

Sandy has lived in Berlin since 1989. In 1990 he was involved in the founding of the Kunsthaus Tacheles. From 1990 to 1994 he was Chairman of the Board of Tacheles eV and is responsible for both the financing of the operation as well as the artistic program.

In 1993, Sand together with Sasha Waltz, the international dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests. In 1996 he founded the Sophiensaele in Berlin as a new production facility for independent theater and dance, and was until 1999 the Artistic Director. In 1999, Sand together with Waltz at the Schaubühne place where he was together with her co-artistic director until 2004. In 2006 he founded with the music manager Folkert Uhde the cultural enterprise "Radial System V - New Space for the Arts " in Berlin, which opened in early September 2006.

On 11 January 2010, Sand was appointed on behalf of the French Minister of Culture, the Knight of Arts and Letters.

Jochen Sand and his wife Sasha Waltz are parents of a son and a daughter.
