Joe's Own Editor

Joe or Joe's Own Editor is a free ( under the GPL ) console -based text editor for Unix systems. He is accompanied on many Unix distributions as the default application.

History

The application was 1989/1990 published by Joseph H. Allen on Usenet for the first time. The original program name was simply " e". As of version 2.2, there is also a port for MS -DOS.

After the release of version 2.8 by Joseph Allen in 1995, the development for several years came to a halt. In 2001, a new group of enthusiasts headed by Marek Grac the development back on and corrected many errors and introduced a standardized build system. 2004 came back to the original author and project released version 3.0, the syntax highlighting and UTF -8 support introduced.
