Joe Dawson (racing driver)

Joe Dawson ( born April 19, 1889 in Odon, Indiana, † June 17, 1946 ) was an American race car driver.

Dawson started three times at the 500 miles of Indianapolis. For the first time in 1911, when he drove to fifth place with a Marmon. The following year he won after Ralph DePalma, who led 196 of 200 laps, failed with a technical defect. With an age of 22 years and 323 days, he was then the youngest winner of the Indianapolis 500 Superseded he was only in 1952 when Troy Ruttman won at the age of 22 years and 86 days. In his last Indianapolis 500, in 1914, he fell after an accident in the 45th round.
