Joe Egan (musician)

Joe Egan ( Irish name: Seosamh MacAodhagain ) (born 18 October 1949 in Paisley, Scotland, born Joseph Egan ) is a British singer and songwriter.

In the 1960s, Joe Egan played along with his school friend Gerry Rafferty in various smaller British bands, such as the sensor or the Mavericks, and worked as a session musician. In 1972 he founded, together with the Folk-/Rockband Rafferty Stealers Wheel. The title Stuck in the Middle with You, which he co-wrote with Rafferty was to place in 1973 after two singles flopped a surprise hit and was in the top ten of the American and British charts.

Rafferty then rose from in Stealers Wheel and Egan left the role of bandleader. In the two videos of Stuck in the Middle with You can see Egan and in the Parts mimic the singer, in which clearly Rafferty sings. Even before the next recordings Rafferty returned to the band, with the result that all the other musicians got out except Egan. The second album Ferguslie Park was welcomed by Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan as a duo with accompanying musicians. This two minor hits were released, the written from both Everyone's Agreed That Everything Will Turn Out Fine and Joe Egan composed solely Star.

Thereafter, the partnership between the two did not seem to work. Sluggish sales and artistic differences led before the release of their third album Right Or Wrong for resolution of Stealers Wheel in 1975.

The two songwriters went their separate ways. Since both were still tied to complicated contracts, they could initially publish three years, no further recordings. Joe Egan released his first solo album Out Of Nowhere year later. It was particularly in Germany rave reviews ( "Best Folk-Rock Album of the Year ", " better than Rafferty's debut album" ), but sold only sparse. The single releases Back on the Road and Out of Nowhere could not place in the charts themselves.

In 1981 Joe Egan's second album, titled Map. It was rocking and with the then modern keyboard sound, but found little attention and was able to record any commercial success. Since Joe Egan anyway not like to stand in public, he withdrew and left for ten years to hear anything more from him.

Beginning of the 90s a Stealers Wheel reunion was probably briefly planned, because Egan visited Rafferty back in the studio of Hugh Murphy and also sang on some songs from On A Wing & A Prayer with. Over My Head from 1994 consisted largely of compositions by Joe Egan, was sung by Gerry Rafferty. The title Trouble With Love, unmistakably Joe Egan contributed the solo voice on the, remained unpublished until now.

What makes Joe Egan is currently not known.
