Joe Gallardo

Jose "Joe" Gallardo ( born September 22, 1939 in Corpus Christi, Texas ) is an American musician of Latin and modern jazz (trombone, piano, arrangements, composition).

Life and work

Gallardo received from the age of six lessons by his father, a piano teacher. At 15, he discovered the trumpet and played it in school and amateur bands. Between 1961 and 1963 he worked in the Mexican Luis Arcaraz Orchestra and Stan Kenton, but also studied composition. With the "Seventh Army Band " in 1963, he came to Stuttgart, where he also worked with Wolfgang Dauner and Fred Braceful. After his military service, he studied in his native city until 1968 music education. Then he worked for Nelson Riddle, Peggy Lee, Sammy Davis, but also with Peter Ponzol and Abbey Rader, before he went to Mongo Santamaria in 1974, for which he, inter alia, " Amanecer " wrote ( Grammy 1978). In 1978 he moved to Germany and worked as an arranger and soloist with the Orchestra Erwin Lehn and played next to Wolfgang Lackerschmid. Furthermore, he has performed with the " Connexion Latina" by Rudi Fuesers, with Joe Henderson, with Roman Schwaller, with Wilson de Oliveira and the " Rhythm Combination and Brass " by Peter Herbolzheimer. In 1991 Gallardo to NDR Big Band and was there as a permanent member until 2008 first trombonist. Meanwhile, he has held a professorship at the Musikhochschule Hamburg. Since 1993 he has also been one of the leaders of the State Youth Jazz Orchestra Schleswig -Holstein.
