Joe "Guitar" Hughes

Joe "Guitar" Hughes ( born September 29, 1937 in Houston, Texas, † May 20, 2003 ibid ) was an American blues guitarist and singer. His role models include Johnny "Guitar" Watson, also of Houston, and Johnny Copeland, with whom he has performed the mid-1950s in a band called " Dukes of Rhythm."

1958-1963 Hughes headed the house band of a juke joint. He also recorded several singles. In 1963 he became a member of the Upsetters, known as the band of Little Richard. In 1965 he joined the first Bobby " Blue" Bland, then to Al "TNT" Braggs.

After a long dry spell Hughes brought from the second half of the 1980s a series of successful albums out. Joe "Guitar" Hughes died on 20 May 2003 after a heart attack.
