Joe Knollenberg

Joseph "Joe" Knollenberg ( born November 28, 1933 in Mattoon, Illinois) is an American politician. Between 1993 and 2009 he represented the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joe Knollenberg studied until 1955 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Between 1955 and 1957 he served in the U.S. Army. He then worked for 30 years in the insurance industry. Politically Knollenberg was a member of the Republican Party. From 1978 to 1982 he headed the party in Oakland County in Michigan.

In the congressional elections of 1992 he was in the eleventh electoral district of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Robert William Davis on January 3, 1993. After seven elections he could pass in Congress until 3 January 2009 eight legislatures. Since 2003 he represented there by a new division of electoral districts in place of Dale E. Kildee the ninth district of Michigan. In Congress Knollenberg was temporarily a member of the Appropriations Committee and in two of its subcommittees.

In the 2008 elections Knollenberg defeated Democrat Gary Peters. He has two sons with his wife Sandie. Marty Knollenberg ( b. 1963 ) belongs to the House of Representatives from Michigan as a deputy.
