Joe Mantegna

Joe Mantegna ( born November 13, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois as Joseph Anthony Mantegna Jr.) is an American actor, voice actor and director.

Life and achievements

Mantegna comes from an Italian-American family. His acting debut was Mantegna in 1969 in the musical Hair. He got his first film role in the short film Medusa Challenger from 1976, in which it comes to two flower sellers on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago - his older partner played Jack Wallace. In addition to Don Ameche played Mantegna in 1988 in the comedy Things Change - More luck than judgment of David Mamet one of the main roles and won it in the same year, the Coppa Volpi Film Festival of Venice. Previously, he had already made in the film House of Games of Mamet from 1987 as trick scammers attention. For his starring role in the thriller Homicide ( 1991), also by David Mamet, he was nominated in 1992 for the London Critics Circle Film Award.

In 1990, he starred in the role of a New York mobster in the third part of the " Godfather " by Francis Ford Coppola. In the thriller Body of Evidence (1993 ) he appeared alongside Madonna and Willem Dafoe, and in the mini TV series The Last Don by Mario Puzo he took over at the side of Danny Aiello, Kirstie Alley and Daryl Hannah one of the major roles. For this role he was nominated in 1997 for an Emmy Award. For his role in the film drama Frank, Dean and Sammy do it (1998), in which he appeared alongside Ray Liotta et al, he was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award in 1999. In 2005 he was awarded for his role in the film drama Nine Lives (2005) was nominated for a Gotham Award. In the cartoon series "The Simpsons" Mantegna lends the figure " Fat Tony" his voice.

In the series " Criminal Minds " Mantegna occurs with the sixth episode of the third season as a successor to Jason Gideon ( Mandy Patinkin ). Patinkin got out because of alleged " artistic differences " from the series in July 2007.

Mantegna directed the film drama lakeboat (2000) from a screenplay by David Mamet. For this work he received the 2001 Grand Prize of the Savannah Film and Video Festival. In 1999 Mantegna was honored for his life's work with the Chicago Film Critics Association Award and in 2000 with the Santa Monica Film Festival Tribute Award.

On April 29, 2011 Mantegna was honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a star in the category Theatre.

Mantegna has been married to Arlene Vrhel since the year 1975. They have two children, her daughter Gia Mantegna is also an actress.

Among his German voice actors include, inter alia, Frank Glaubrecht, Dennis Brandau and Lutz Mackensy.
