Joe Natuman

Joe Natuman is a politician from Vanuatu.

Biography

After visiting the Lenakel Primary School, the Onesua High School and the Malapoa and Tafea College, he studied at the University of the Pacific ( USP) in Suva and at the University of Papua New Guinea ( University of PNG), with which he a Bachelor of Arts ( BA) graduated.

After finishing his studies, he joined the staff in the management of Vanuatu and in 1980 was successively first Second Secretary in the Ministry of Public Administration and then Secretary for Public Relations in the Chief Minister Walter Lini Hadye office. After 1982 he became Deputy Secretary for Foreign Affairs with special responsibility for Australia and the South Pacific, before he became in 1983 private secretary to Prime Minister Lini. In 1987 he was appointed First Secretary in the Prime Minister 's office. He was most recently between 1991 and 1995 Deputy director of the Record of the University of the Pacific in Suva.

His political career began Natuman 1996 when he was elected as the candidate of Vanua'aku Pati Member of Parliament and since then the constituency Tanna represents. In the parliamentary elections of 1998 and 2002, he received seven representatives to be elected this electoral district respectively the best individual result.

Immediately after his election in 1996 he became Minister of Justice Services, Culture and Women's Affairs in the government of Prime Minister Serge Vohor. In 1997 he was appointed by him under a government reshuffle as Minister of lands, energy, geology, mining, and then in 1998 to the Minister of Education.

Later he was on 3 June 2002 Minister of the Interior in the cabinet of Prime Minister Edward Natapei. In this role, he threatened in April 2003 the City Council of the capital Port Vila with the establishment of a Government Commissioner for mismanagement in city government, overpayment of isolated city councils and indications of mismanagement. In the spring of 2004, he left with other prominent leaders such as former Prime Minister Donald Kalpokas times the Vanua'aku Pati (VP). In the parliamentary elections of July 5, 2004, he was elected as a candidate but the VP back to the representatives of the constituency MPs to Tanna, where he to be elected representatives received the most votes from the seven.

In December 2004, he was appointed Minister of Education and Chairman of the National Commission for UNESCO in the government of Prime Minister Ham Lini. During this time, new construction and renovation activities at secondary schools such as the Tafea College took place. On 29 July 2007 he was appointed by Lini at a reshuffle of the Interior.

After Natapei became prime minister again on 22 September 2008, the first Natuman the Office of the Minister of lands and the Minister of Health.

In a cabinet reshuffle, he was in 2009 Successor of Pakoa Kaltonga as Foreign Minister on June 19.
