Joe Ranft

Joe Ranft ( born March 13, 1960 in Pasadena, California, † August 16, 2005 in Mendocino County, California ) was an American screenwriter and creative head at Pixar.

Life

Joe was born after his brother Jerome and his sister Ruth -Ann 1960 in Pasadena, California. He grew up in Whittier, California, and was interested in early for the sorcery and magic. He graduated from the California Institute of the Arts, 1980, he was acquired by Disney.

Joe Ranft worked for Disney from 1980 to 1992 and was partly due to the creation of the screenplays of The Lion King ( The Lion King, 1994) and Beauty and the Beast ( Beauty and the Beast, 1991) involved.

On 5 October 1992 brought him his former professor John Lasseter, vice president of Pixar, the animation studio Pixar. Joe Ranft was involved as "Head of Story" by Pixar one of the creative heads and the company's success greatly. At Pixar, he wrote the screenplays for Toy Story and A Bug's Life (A Bug's Life, 1998). Ranft was the original voice for Gustl, the caterpillar ( Heimlich the Caterpillar ) in A Bug's Life, and for the penguin Wheezy in Toy Story 2

For the screenplay for Toy Story Ranft had received an Oscar nomination.

Joe Ranft died on 16 August 2005 when his car crashed into the sea with two other inmates from a cliff. Also Ranfts driver Elegba Earl arrived at the accident. His death occurred during the production of the Disney movie Cars, in which he had led co-directed. The film is dedicated to him in the credits.

He was posthumously awarded the 2006 Disney Legends Award bestowed.
