Joe Russo (musician)

Joe Russo ( born December 18, 1976 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American drummer.

Life

Joe Russo grew up in the northern area of New York City, when he started eight years, playing drums. As a fan of Jason Bonham and Kiss he turned first to the Hard Rock before he was introduced by his drum teacher in other areas of music at the age of 13.

By 1996, he briefly studied at the Berklee College of Music, before he moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he teamed up with several jazz students at the University of Colorado at Boulder for jamband Fat Mama. By 2000, this group played together before Russo went back to New York to Manhattan. Here he met the keyboardist Marco Benevento again, whom he knew from Boston. The promoter Jake Szufranowski booked the two to a birthday party tribute from Madonna.

Then Russo and Benevento played as Benevento / Russo Duo are further cooperating with Russo incidentally played with Robert Walter of The Greyboy Allstars. After two years, Joe Russo ended the collaboration with Robert Walter, in order to concentrate on working with Marco Benevento. As of 2004, they played together occasionally as a trio with bassist Mike Gordon Phish. This trio joined Trey Anastasio at, on his solo album " Bar 17 " they participated. In this formation they went under the name " GRAB " on. As G.R.A.B. Russo played several times with Phil Lesh & Friends together. This revealed that the band Furthur Russo Lesh and Bob Weir joined.

In the short term Russo also played in the bands A BIG YES ... and a small no and American Babies. During his work as a Fat Mama and Benevento / Russo Duo, he won in 2000 and 2005 (each as ribbon ) the Jammy Award.
