Joe Turner (ice hockey)

Joe Turner ( born March 28, 1919 in Windsor, Ontario; † January 12, 1945 in the Netherlands) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played in his time, among other things for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League.

Career

Joe Turner was awarded in 1941 a contract with the Indianapolis Capitals of the American Hockey League after he had previously been active since 1933 in amateur hockey. In his first and only season in professional hockey, the goalkeeper won with his team as a regular player the Calder Cup and was voted into the All-Star team in the AHL. On January 5, 1942, he also made ​​his debut in the National Hockey League for the Detroit Red Wings at 3-3 Draws against the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he replaced the injured goalkeeper Johnny Mower.
