Joel Chandler Harris

Joel Chandler Harris ( born December 8, 1848 in Eatonton, Georgia, † July 3, 1908 in Atlanta ) was an American journalist and writer from the State of Georgia.

Life

Harris was known primarily for his uncle Remus continued stories. The stories were first published in 1879 in the Atlanta Constitution newspaper, and were due to their optimistic picture of the American " race relations " quickly became popular after the official end of segregation. Furthermore, they were novel in their use of dialects and the type of their hero, "Brother Rabbit" ( " Brer Rabbit" ), which always prevails using cunning against stronger opponents. Walt Disney filmed the stories in 1946 under the title Uncle Remus' Wonderland ( Song of the South ) as a musical with live-action and animated sequences.
