Joel Lundqvist

Joel Lundqvist ( born March 2, 1982 in Åre ) is a Swedish professional ice hockey center who plays for Frölunda HC in the Swedish Elitserien since 2009. Joel's twin brother Henrik also plays in the NHL and is since 2005 goalkeeper of the New York Rangers.

Career

Joel Lundqvist started his career in 1997 at the Junior Rögle BK. The following year he moved to Frölunda HC to Gothenburg. There he went through all the youth department and showed good qualities as a scorer. In 2000 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected by the Dallas Stars in the third round at position 68. In the same year he won the bronze medal with the Swedish junior national team at the U18 World Cup.

In the 2000 /01 season Lundqvist came to his first stakes in the pros Frölunda in Elitserien. As of the 2001 /02 season, he belonged to the tribe squad of the team. There he developed into a solid scorer and a player who is not afraid of the hard game. So he cashed 2002/ 03 113 penalty minutes. 2003 and 2005, he was able to celebrate with the team, the Swedish Championship.

In the spring of 2006 he became world champion with the Swedish national team and got a little later his first NHL contract with the Dallas Stars. At the beginning of the season 2006/ 07 he was first to the farm team of Dallas, the Iowa Stars sent to the AHL. There he was able to convince, and was one of the best players of the team, so he was called for the first time early December 2006 in the NHL squad and on December 4, played his first game against the San Jose Sharks. During the season he returned, although a few more times in the AHL back, but he was able to convince stars, so that his contract was extended for two years in the Checking Line of Dallas.

At the World Championships in 2013 in Stockholm and Helsinki, he was part of the Men's National Team and won the gold medal with this.
