Joel Ward (ice hockey)

Joel Ward ( born December 2, 1980 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since July 2011 the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Joel Ward began his career as a hockey player in the Ontario Hockey League, where he played from 1997 to 2001 a total of four years. Initially he was three seasons for the Owen Sound Platers active, then one more season for their successor team, the Owen Sound Attack. The 2000/01 season he finished, however, in the West Coast Hockey League, where he came to eight appearances for the Long Beach Ice Dogs in the playoffs.

After he had held for four years for the ice hockey team of the University of Prince Edward Iceland, the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League pledged him on December 4, 2005 as a free agent. For the Aeros, he gave in the 2005/06 season his debut in professional hockey. After a year in Houston the winger was also taken on 27 September 2006 of the Minnesota Wild as a free agent contract, the farm team, the Houston Aeros. The 2007/ 08 Ward spent exclusively in the AHL with the Aeros, so the Nashville Predators took the attacker on 14 July 2008 as a free agent contract.

On 1 July 2011, he signed a contract for four years with the Washington Capitals.
