History

Reinhold Joest began his racing career in 1962 with mountain races in the domestic Odenwald. In the 1970s he drove sports car racing with the Porsche 908 and founded in 1978 his racing team. In addition to many successes as a driver, he focused since 1982 on the role as team leader.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the team was at all major endurance races like the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring, Road America, the 1000 km Nürburgring and the 24 -hour race of Le Mans successful, with Porsche 935, Porsche 936 and Porsche 956 with Klaus Ludwig Joest won in 1984 and 1985 twice in a row with the same car in Le Mans.

1996 Joest Racing won with driver Manuel Reuter and an Opel Calibra International Touring Car Championship. In the same year the team with TWR- Porsche WSC95 won for the third time in Le Mans. The following year, the Le Mans victory was repeated with the same car.

Since 1998 Joest is closely connected with Audi Motorsport and celebrated the shared successes at Le Mans and in the American Le Mans Series with the Audi R8 sports prototype.

2003 Team Joest won with the Bentley Speed ​​8 Le Mans, but was officially out there for marketing reasons as the Bentley factory team. The development of the Bentley Speed ​​8 is based on the Audi R8C from 1999 with current technology of the Audi R8.

As of 2004, the team also drove for Audi in the DTM. The success, however, remained behind expectations, scoring points remained an exception. For this reason, Joest end of 2005, withdrew from the series.

As of 2006, the Audi R10 TDI sports prototype has been successfully used with a diesel engine, with victories at the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. His successor, the R15 came in 2009 and in a revised version in 2010 for use. Since 2011, the new Audi R18 is used.

Joest Racing won in 2013 for a total of 14 times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, making it the most successful sports car team racing history.
