Johan Andreas Murray

Johan Andreas Murray ( born January 27, 1740 in Stockholm, † May 22, 1791 in Göttingen) was a Swedish botanist and physician. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Murray ".

Life and work

His father was Andrew Murray ( 1695-1771 ). Murray was from 1756 to 1759 in Uppsala, a pupil of Linnaeus. In 1760 he went to Göttingen. With Linnaeus he remained through correspondence to 1776 contacts. Murray was a professor of medicine and botany; He was also from 1769 curator of the Botanical Garden of Göttingen.

Murray published works in the fields of medicine, pharmacy and botany. He was editor of " Caroli a Linne ... Systema vegetabilum ... " in the 13th edition in 1774 and in the 14th edition 1784th According to him, the plant genus of the orange diamonds was ( Murraya Koenig ex L. JG corr.
