Johan Kemper

Johan Christian Jacob Kemper (also: Moshe Ben Aharon of Kraków; * 1670, † 1716) was a Polish Jew who converted from Judaism to Lutheran Christianity.

He was from 1697 to 1716 professor of Hebrew at the University of Uppsala. He was probably the teacher of Emanuel Swedenborg.

During his stay in Uppsala, he wrote a three -volume work on the Zohar, titled Matteh Moshe ( The rod of Moses ). In it, he tried to prove that the Zohar contained the Christian doctrine of the Trinity. This conviction led him to a literal translation of the Gospel of Matthew into Hebrew, with a kabbalistic commentary.
