Johan Ludvig Heiberg (poet)

Johan Ludvig Heiberg ( born November 16, 1791 in Copenhagen, † August 25, 1860 at Castle Bonderup, Ringsted Municipality ) was a Danish mathematician, poet and literary critic.

Life

Heiberg was the son of Peter Andreas Heiberg, his mother was Thomasine Gyllembourg - Ehrensvard He studied mathematics and aesthetics ( = philosophy) in Copenhagen, graduating in 1817 with a doctorate. Between 1819 and 1822 Heiberg held on with his father in Paris.

1822 Heiberg was professor of philosophy at the University of Kiel offered. This he accepted and taught there until 1825. During this time he learned the Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's writings know, who influenced him in his work. 1828 set to music Friedrich Kuhlau libretto " Elverhøi ", from which the most popular Danish opera was. 1831 married Johanne Luise Heiberg actress Pätges that rose as Johanne Luise Heiberg the most famous Danish actress of her time. Among the admirers of Heiberg belonged to the young Soren Kierkegaard. He has published in Flyveposten, a magazine published by Heiberg, first polemical texts.

After his return Heiberg worked as a playwright at the Royal Theatre, whose director he was in 1849. This theater he directed until 1856. During this time he established the Vaudeville as a new form. With these innovations, which he brought with him from Paris, he gave the Danish theater new impetus and became the pioneer of realism in Denmark.

At the age of 68 years Heiberg died during a Somme Rauf budget at Castle Bonderup.
