Johan Ludwig Mowinckel

Johan Ludwig Mowinckel ( born October 22, 1870 in Bergen, † September 30, 1943 in New York City ) was a Norwegian shipowner and liberal politician of the Venstre Party.

Mowinckel was Mayor of Bergen 1902-1906 and again from 1911 to 1913. Member of Parliament, he was from 1906 to 1909, 1913-1918 and 1922 until his death. 1916-1918 Mowinckel was President of the Parliament and had 1924-1926, 1928-1931, and 1933-1935 three times held the office of Prime Minister of Norway.

From 1925 to 1936 he was a member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
