Johan Peter Emilius Hartmann

Johann Peter Emilius Hartmann ( born May 14, 1805 in Copenhagen, † March 10, 1900 ) was a Danish composer.

Life

Hartmann came from a German family of musicians, received his first music lessons from his father, but was largely self-taught. He devoted himself to his father's wishes, the study of law and held from 1829 to 1870, a local government office. After having worked as an organist at the Copenhagen Garrison Church since 1824, he made his debut in 1832 as composer of the opera " Ravnen " ( The Raven or The brother sample). In 1836 he undertook his first study trip to Germany and France, during which he made ​​contacts with such important musicians such as Frédéric Chopin, Gioacchino Rossini, Luigi Cherubini and Louis Spohr.
