Johan van der Keuken

Johan van der Keuken ( born April 4, 1938 in Amsterdam, † January 7, 2001 there ) was a Dutch documentary filmmaker and photographer. Keuken studied from 1956 to 1958 in Paris at the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques ( IDHEC ). As a director ( and usually at the same time cameraman) he turned 55 films, including a four-hour portrait of his hometown ( " Amsterdam Global Village "), but also a film about blind children ( " blind child ") and a portrait of the last in the Netherlands living jazz musician Ben Webster. His last film " De grote Vakantie " ( " The Long Vacation" ) was built for a trip to Bhutan after his doctor told him that he would live only a few years as a result of cancer. This film is about the change of time and space by a disease, but also about the search for meaning and hope for a great connection between all things.

His reputation as internationally excellent documentary he owed a multilayered assembly technology. Since 1982 he has also conducted concerts with the film Willem Breuker collective deep.
