Johann Andreas Amon

John Amon ( born August 24, 1763 in Drossendorf at the Aufseß at Hollfeld, † March 29, 1825 in Wallerstein ) was a German composer and music publisher.

Life

John Amon described himself as a disciple of Giovanni Punto (Jan Vaclav stitch). In whose company he traveled in 1781 to Paris, where he met Antonio Rosetti among others. At Antonio Sacchini he should have received lessons in composition. After the stay in Paris, he went with Punto on tour and met 1784 in Strasbourg Ignaz Pleyel. 1789 Amon found in Heilbronn a job as Director of Music, a position in life, which he held for 28 years. On several trips, he met many famous artists, such as the composer Reichardt, Vanhal, Haydn, Mozart and Franz Anton Hoffmeister. On Hoffmeister's suggestion founded Amon 1791 a music publishing house, where he mainly works from his circle of acquaintances ( for example, Johann Brandl ) but also the most popular Viennese classics in early printed books published, such as 24 vocal parts from Le Nozze di Figaro and the first editions of Mozart's German dances KV 571. 1817 Amon came to a Kapellmeister to the Prince of Oettingen- Wallerstein and sold the now grown to around 300 catalog numbers number of publishing works to the publishers Schott in Mainz and Simrock in Bonn.

Work

Amon wrote a declaration addressed to the bourgeoisie music in the first place. Complex motivic formulas, such as Haydn did not find in his held in common formulas compositions. His work covers all genres and forms of occupation, he wrote church music, cantatas, symphonies and an extensive work of chamber music, to simple dances and songs. Contemporaries judged on Amon, " The audiences are lovers who ohngefähr the wish, which was for the last time Pleyel " or " ... but his works have many pleasures, brought pleasant and useful conversation."
