Johann Bollig

John Bollig ( born August 23, 1821 in Kelz, † March 9, 1895 in Rome ) was a German Jesuit and Orientalist.

Life

John Bollig was born on 23 August 1821 in Kelz at Düren and studied at the University of Rome. Subsequently, he received his ordination. On November 13, 1853, he was taken with the Jesuits. Both the College in Rome and at the Gregorian University, he worked as a professor of Oriental languages ​​in 1855, and then worked in the years 1862-1864 at the seminar in Ghazir as professor of theology. After that, he again took over the post of professor at the University of Rome. Moreover Bollig was consultant to, a member of the Preparatory Committee for the First Vatican Council and participated in this council also participate as papal theologian.

From 1880 until his death he was prefect of the Vatican Library.

John Bollig died in Rome on 9 March in the year 1895.
