Johann Burchard Freystein

Johann Burchard Freyenstein ( born April 18, 1671 at White Rock, † April 1, 1718 in Dresden ) was a German jurist and poet hymns.

Life and work

His father was Samuel Adam Frey Stone, Vice-Chancellor of Duke August of Saxony, inspector of the Gymnasium of Weissenfels, a member of the "Fruit -bearing Society " (also called " palm North" called ).

Johann Burchard Freyenstein studied at the University of Leipzig, law, mathematics, philosophy and architecture. He lived for some time in Berlin and Halle. 1695 he was in Jena Dr. iur. doctorate. He then opened his own firm in Dresden. In 1703 he became a councilor in Gotha, in 1709, he returned as the Court and Judicial Council back to Dresden.

Frey stone religiosity was under the influence of Philipp Jakob Spener. His song " Rise up, my mind, ready to wake up, beg and pray " can still be found in Protestant hymnals (ECG 261 Evangelic hymnbook EC 387).
