Johann Christian Lobe

Johann Christian Lobe (* May 30, 1797 in Weimar, † July 27, 1881 in Leipzig ) was a German composer and music theorist.

Lobe grew up in Weimar and taught himself to play the violin. In the years 1804-1811 he attended the Wilhelm -Ernst -Gymnasium in Weimar. From 1810, he played violin at a Weimar church and completed his first composition in 1821, the opera Wittekind. In the following years Lobe composed more operas, including The filibusters ( 1830) and The Princess of Granada (1833 ) and some orchestral pieces. In 1842 he was appointed professor in Weimar, but moved in 1846 to Leipzig, where he worked as a music critic and teacher of composition. His most famous writing is the textbook of musical composition, which was created 1850-1867.
