Johann Christian Polycarp Erxleben

Johann Christian Polycarp Erxleben ( born June 22, 1744 Quedlinburg; † August 18, 1777 in Göttingen ) was a German scholar. His areas of expertise included the physics, mineralogy, chemistry and natural history.

Life

From 1763 to 1767 Erxleben studied at the Georg -August- University Medical Center. He was like Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1742-1799) Abraham Gotthelf Kästner a student ( 1719-1800 ). After Erxleben was first doctorate for Master of Arts, he habilitated in 1775 and was a professor of physics and veterinary science at the University of Göttingen.

Among his scientific works, among other Dijudicationem Systematum Animalium ( 1767), First Principles of Natural Philosophy ( 1768), analyzes the causes of the incompleteness of the mineral systems ( 1768), First Principles of Chemistry ( 1775), Introduction to the Vieharzneykunst (1769 ), reflection on the study of Vieharzneykunst (1769 ) and history of my employment with the Vieharzneykunst (edited by Zwierlein, 1798).

Erxleben was the founder of the Veterinary Institute ( Institute of Veterinary Medicine of the Georg- August-Universität Göttingen ), the first and oldest university veterinary training center in Germany.

Since 1774 Erxleben belonged to the Society of Sciences at Göttingen, and has worked as a reviewer of the "Göttingen scholars Show " and got 1774/75 edition of the weekly " charitable treatises ". From Göttingen publisher Johann Christian Dieterich (1722-1800), he soon took over the editorship of the 1775 -founded "Göttingen Pocket Calenders ," which he gave during his lifetime (1777 ) of Lichtenberg.

His mother was the famous Dorothea Christiane Erxleben, who received his doctorate as the first woman in Germany to the doctor. Married since 1770, Erxleben was with Sophie Juliane Stromeyer ( 1751-1815 ). The Marburg professor of law Johann Heinrich Christian Erxleben was his brother.

After Erxlebens untimely death put Lichtenberg continued his lectures on experimental physics and gave the 3rd to the 6th edition of his " First Principles of Natural Philosophy " each extended out.
