Johann Christoph Andreas Mayer

Johann Christoph Andreas Mayer ( born December 8, 1747 in Greifswald, † November 5, 1801 in Berlin) was a German anatomist.

Life

Mayer was born in 1747 as the son of the mathematician Andreas Mayer in Greifswald. In his native town he went to school and attended the University of Greifswald. Frederick the Great called him in 1777 to Berlin at the Collegio Medico chirurgico as professor of anatomy. In 1778 he went as Professor of Medicine at the University of Frankfurt (Oder). There he began his eight -volume work on the anatomy.

In Frankfurt he was second Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge to sincere heart. Together with brothers of the lodge he left off at March 7, 1784, some balloons ( Snowpark ).

In 1787 he left Frankfurt again and took over Berlin in the Department of Botany and Materia Medica. At the same time he was physician to the king and director of the botanical garden in Berlin. Furthermore, he was commissary of the court pharmacy and director of the Prussian medical and medical college.
