Johann Eduard Erdmann

Johann Eduard Erdmann (born 1 Junijul / June 13 1805greg in Wolmar, Russian Empire, .. † June 12, 1892 in Halle ( Saale) ) was a German professor of philosophy and author. He is counted among the Old Hegelians.

Life

Johann Eduard Erdmann studied theology, first at the University of Dorpat and later in Berlin, where he came into the sphere of influence of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel.

From 1829 to 1832 he served as priest in his hometown working, but then turned to philosophy. Back in Berlin, he was in 1834, Dr. phil. doctorate. In 1836 he was appointed to the University of Halle as Honorary Professor. There he was appointed in 1839 as a full professor. He lived until his death in Halle.

As a writer he was best known for his ground plan of the history of philosophy. What is remarkable about this work is that Erdmann not content to put together a simple list of the different philosophical schools. Rather, he presents it as a continuous updating of the task to answer the essential questions of life from the beginning of time to.
