Johann Elias Ridinger

Johann Elias Ridinger (* February 15, 1698 in Ulm, † April 10, 1767 in Augsburg ) was a German animal painter, engraver, etcher and publisher.

Life

Ridinger was taught as a son of a drawing talented father of Christopher Rasch ( Resch ) in Ulm and Johann Falk ( Falch ) in Augsburg and then formed in Regensburg on, where was leading him his fondness for hunting for the Study of the game at the court of Count Metternich. After 1717 he undertook further studies in the rich urban Academy of Georg Philip Rugendas. He later founded in Augsburg own art publishing house, in which published most of his works. 1759, he became director of the Academy of Arts. Ridinger died on April 10, 1767 in Augsburg. His work was continued by his sons Martin Elias and Johann Jakob. The publishing house was later taken over by Martin Engelbrecht 's art shop (1827 Alois Schlosser ).

Work

His etched leaves, which amount to about 1600 pieces, put the animals in characteristic moments of life and scenic environments dar. Old imprints of leaves are rare. An output as " Gallery Ridingerscher animal and hunting scenes, " was started in 1817 in Augsburg. Very numerous are its executed with accuracy and taste drawings.
