Johann Friedrich Franz Burgmüller

, Also called Johann Friedrich Franz Burgmuller Frédéric Burgsmüller, ( born December 4, 1806 Regensburg, † February 13, 1874 in Beaulieu at Marolles -en- Hurepoix, department Essonne ) was a German composer.

Life

Burgmuller was born into a musical family. His father Friedrich August Burgsmüller worked as a music teacher, composer, conductor and later as a music director in Dusseldorf, his mother, Therese von Zandt was probably associate the published in Leipzig general musical newspaper. His younger brother Norbert Burgmuller was also a composer.

Already in 1807 came Burgsmüller with his family to Dusseldorf, where he spent his youth. After his father's death in 1824 he left the city and worked from then on in the Basel, Strasbourg and Mulhouse to finally be settled in Paris in 1834. 1842, he was awarded French citizenship.

Works

Friedrich Burgmuller composed almost exclusively easily playable piano works. These are his Piano Etudes for young pianists who are still appreciated today.

He also wrote two numbers for the ballet Giselle by Adolphe Adam (1841 ) as well as the music for the one-time hugely popular ballet La Peri (1843 ), to a libretto by Théophile Gautier and the choreographer Jean Coralli. The demanding title role was written for Carlotta Grisi, one of the most famous dancers of her time. Spectacular was the scene of La Rêve, in which the Grisi 3 m deep left out of a cloud in the arms of her partner Lucien Petipa fall.
