Johann Georg Hagen

Johann Georg Hagen ( born March 6, 1847 in Bregenz ( Vorarlberg), † September 5, 1930 in Rome) was an Austrian Jesuit and astronomer.

He attended the Jesuit school Stella Matutina in Feldkirch, studied mathematics and astronomy at the Universities of Bonn and Münster. He was a volunteer in the Franco-German war, but fell ill with typhoid fever.

1888 Hagen entrusted you with the director of the observatory of the Jesuit College in Georgetown (Washington, DC). 1906 Hagen became director of the Vatican Observatory at Castel Gandolfo in the Alban Hills. He researched mainly through dark clouds and variable stars.

In honor of JG Hagen wearing a crater on the side of the moon the name Hagen, Münster University awarded him an honorary doctorate. Since 1922 he was a member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei.
