Johann Georg Heinrich Backofen

Johann Georg Heinrich Backofen ( born July 6, 1768 in Durlach, † July 10, 1830 in Darmstadt ) was a German clarinetist and composer.

Life

Oven came from a Nuremberg mapmakers and family of musicians. His father was a member of Chapel of the Margrave of Baden. From 1780 lived oven in Nuremberg and studied music, art of drawing, painting and linguistics. He is active as a portrait painter and writer, and spoke several foreign languages. From 1789 he took the clarinet longer art tours through France, Italy and Spain.

In 1794 he participated in Nuremberg at the place of a flutist. From 1798 he worked as a traveling virtuoso again. In 1802 oven was located in Gotha, where he was a ducal chamber musician under Louis Spohr found a job in 1806. He was harp teacher by Dorette Spohr ( born Scheidler ). 1811 oven to Darmstadt and was a member of the local court orchestra. In 1830 he died there aged 62.

In his time enjoyed great fame oven. He was known not only as a composer and virtuoso on the clarinet, but also still playing harp, flute and basset horn. He also worked as a painter.
