Johann Georg Primavesi

Johann Georg Primavesi (* 1774 in Heidelberg, † 1855 in Kassel ) was a German theater and landscape painter.

Life and work

Primavesi worked as a scene painter in Mannheim, then went to the Darmstadt court theaters. During this time he maintained contacts with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He then moved in 1822 as court painter to the Elector of Hesse- Kassel, where he remained until his death.

He created for the theater numerous scenes and brochures. In addition, etchings and watercolors are obtained with landscape motifs. Many of his works are unknown today.
