Johann Georg Tralles

Johann Georg Tralles (* October 15, 1763 in Hamburg, † November 19, 1822 in London) was a mathematician and physicist.

Tralles studied from 1783 in Göttingen. He became in 1785 professor of mathematics and physics in Bern. In 1804 he became a member of the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences. 1810 Professor of Mathematics at the University of Berlin.

He invented named after him " Alcoholometer ", with which one can determine the alcohol content in liquids. He also wrote " Studies on the specific gravities of the mixtures of alcohol and water " (Leipzig, 1812).

The lunar crater Tralles is named after him.
