Johann Georg Wirsung

Johann Georg Wirsung (* July 3, 1589 in Augsburg, † August 22, 1643 in Padua ) was a German physician and anatomist.

After studying philosophy and medicine in Paris and Altdorf he was in Padua in 1630 for Dr. med. doctorate. Wirsung was from 1630 professor of anatomy in Padua.

He discovered in 1642 named after him Ausführgang the pancreas in humans ( Wirsung Gear, pancreatic duct Wirsungi ), but he mistook for a lymphatic vessel of the intestine.

Wirsung was murdered in 1643 by Giacomo Cambier.
