Johann George Schmidt

Johann George Schmidt (also called Johann George Schmiedtberger; * 1707 Fiirstenwalde at Geising; † July 24, 1774 in Dresden) was a Dresden architect of the late baroque and city master carpenter of the city.

Life

He trained as a carpenter and worked as a 25 -year-old with his cousin George Bähr in the establishment of the Frauenkirche and the Epiphany Church, he created drawings and models. In the year of his death George Bähr, he earned the Master right. On 8 January 1739 Dresdner acquired the citizenship. On April 1, 1740 he married the widow of George Bähr and moved into the house Bähr, On the wall 2 He worked as a carpenter on the construction of the Catholic Hofkirche Chiaveri. From 1744 to 1748 he built the town church in Great grove. In 1764 he became councilman builder in Dresden.

Schmidt died on July 24, 1774, he was buried in the Johanniskirchhof.

Work

Its buildings erected after the destruction of Dresden during the seven year old war were known. He is regarded as the builder of the second Anne's Church and along with Christian Friedrich Exner as a builder of the Cross Church. Together with Johann Gottfried Fehre he led the construction of the Epiphany church, together with Johann Friedrich Knöbel the Gewandhaus. From 1746-1748 he created with Fehre St. Mary's Church in Great grove.

The New Church on Weesenstein is attributed to him. Also come from him several private homes, including the house Big Brothers Gasse 25 in Dresden.

Others

Schmidt was a brother- disciple and successor of George Bähr.
